Responsive website is no longer an option

So what responsive website is?

Responsive design is an approach providing an optimal viewing experience on different devices.

Responsive website will be easy to read and navigate no matter what resolution, no matter what physical size of the screen. It will size your pages, images and text to fit the size of the screen.

In other words it will look awesome on any screen hence will do the same job on desktop as well as on a tiny smartphone and in most cases you will not need to zoom anything.

Why we need it

There is one main reason, probably repeated elsewhere, but valid – in 2014 there were 61% adults with a smartphone, so it is already more than half of us. It is quite obvious that every website now should go responsive. It is 2015 for heaven’s sake!

And there is also another reason….

Google and their algorithm

Everyone knows what Google is but probably only some of you know that Google owns 65.73% of a global market share, so obviously decisions they make and actions that they take need to be respected and considered.

Google announced

“Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results.”

What this means for us?

Google basically will reward mobile-friendly websites with better rankings. Those who will not stay up to date with already not being user friendly will also suffer negative SEO and experience a decline in mobile rankings.

Check if your website is ready

If you are not sure if you and your website are ready there is a tool that can scan your website and tell you if it’s mobile friendly for Google here https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

All you need to do is to insert your URL and it will analyze it for you.

So is your website responsive yet? Can you afford going on the last page of Google search? Please share your thoughts below.
